Gator GRV2F Video Converter / Video Noise Filter
Gator GRV2F Differential Video Converter and Camera Noise Filter
Converts a factory differential reverse camera signal to a standard composite RCA signal for use with aftermarket head units. Also eliminates ground loop video noise (scrolling lines). Required for vehicles with differential factory cameras.
Product Overview
The Gator GRV2F is a differential to single-ended video converter designed for use when installing an aftermarket head unit into a vehicle that has a factory reverse camera using a differential video signal.
Many factory cameras use a differential signal (two-wire video, no common ground) rather than the standard single-ended composite RCA that aftermarket head units use. The GRV2F converts the differential signal to standard composite RCA enabling the factory camera to work with the aftermarket radio.
As a secondary function, the GRV2F can eliminate ground loop video noise the scrolling horizontal lines that appear when the camera and radio share different ground planes. This is achieved by connecting the GRV2F ground wire to the aftermarket radio's ground wire.
Critical installation note: The GRV2F ground wire must be connected to the same ground as the aftermarket radio for the noise filter function to work correctly.
Features & Benefits
- Converts differential factory camera signal to standard composite RCA
- Eliminates ground loop video noise (scrolling lines)
- Simple two-wire power connection
- RCA in/out for standard integration
- Can be hardwired into the vehicle

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my factory camera uses a differential signal?
Differential factory cameras typically have a two-wire video connection (positive and negative video lines) rather than a standard RCA plug. If you have installed an aftermarket head unit and the factory reverse camera doesn't display correctly, or shows horizontal scrolling lines, a differential signal mismatch or ground loop is likely — the GRV2F resolves both issues.
Why must the GRV2F share the same ground as the head unit?
Ground loops occur when two devices in the same video circuit share different ground reference points, causing a voltage difference that appears as horizontal rolling or scrolling lines in the video. By connecting the GRV2F's ground to the head unit's ground, both devices share a common reference — eliminating the differential.
Can the RCA connectors be cut and hardwired to the vehicle?
Yes. The video input connector wires can be cut from the RCA end and connected directly to the vehicle's factory camera harness. The GRV2F can also be hardwired to the vehicle's 12V accessory circuit.
Will this fix all camera noise issues?
The GRV2F specifically addresses ground loop noise (scrolling lines) and differential signal incompatibility. Other types of camera noise — such as CANBUS interference — require a separate CANBUS filter (see the Gator GRCANFLT).
Is this compatible with aftermarket cameras as well as factory cameras?
The GRV2F is designed for factory differential cameras. Aftermarket cameras typically use standard single-ended RCA output and would not require conversion — they may however benefit from the noise filter function if experiencing ground loop interference.
